Started by Mario Prada in 1913, and carried forward by his granddaughter, Miuccia Prada today, the legacy of Prada lives on and has a distinct, signature style that’s like none other.

As a label, Prada has always been known to make prestigious fashion statements. It also has a unique history, considering the founder and original designer Mario Prada, who opened a shop called Fratelli Prada in Milan in 1913, was against women taking part in business. Funnily enough, his own daughter Luisa Prada took reins of the fashion house for twenty years as Mario’s son had no interest in the family business. Luisa’s daughter Miuccia Prada, a bigwig influencer in the fashion industry today, then succeeded her mother in 1978 and found a steadfast business manager and husband later on, in Patrizio Bertelli, an Italian businessman.

By the nineties, Prada was already a huge name to contend with in the luxury fashion, and considered a status symbol – though the brand has always been self-conscious about coming off as obnoxious, which is why their garments and handbags never carry the logo too obviously.

Then in 1993, Miuccia launched Miu Miu, the diffusion line of the Prada fashion house, after her nickname. More colorful and avant-garde than its sister brand, Miu Miu is very feminine, anti-conformist in aesthetic and even rebellious at times, and is popular with women who were bored wearing suits and dark, boring colors. Soon, the collection received an award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America Best International Designer Award, and the rest is history.

Ballerina flats, heeled leather boots, and masculine loafers are all signature styles of Miu Miu's shoe collection, and their accessory line is always to-die- for. Keeping with their image of being the brand for the modern young woman, Miu Miu has been endorsed by stylish influencers like Chloë Sevigny, Lou Doillon, Laetitia Casta, Vanessa Paradis, and even young Hailee Steinfeld of late.

Prada now designs contemporary men's and women's leather goods, clothing and footwear, that are steeped in sophistication and sublimely crafted. It’s also branched out to super famous eyewear, fragrance and mobile phones.
With their strong artistic roots, Prada was the first brand to launch a new type of store, known as “Prada Epicentres”, three stores designed by internationally-acclaimed architects located in New York, Tokyo and Los Angeles.
